What does a GK24 weight? 2009/05/31 22:15
Hi

I have just changed my car and need to know what a GK24 weights for towing purposes. You might well ask why I didn't think of this before I changed the car, but there you have it. I have it on a twin axle trailer and I suppose I would need to have an idea of the weight of the average trailer too.

Can anyone help?

Chris

morning chris,

It depends on many things!! Mainly how much gear you have on the boat, inboard or outboard, whether or not you plan to tow the boat with the mast on top.

But my estimate is boat 1800kg, average trailer 400kg, mast and rigging 100kg, add 100kg for a small inboard. so 2300-2400kg total.

When we build GK trailers they are fitted with twin 1300kg axles, giving 2600kg max trailer weight.

A very lightweight stripped out GK with removable outboard on a well designed lightweight trailer could have an all up weight of as little as 2000kg.

Some of the older designed trailers could be of heavier construction.

My advice would get someone with a 4x4 to tow your boat to the nearest public weighbridge and find out for sure, then let us all know!

hope this helps

Robin
