cunning ideas wanted!! 2010/01/05 10:36
Hello all, hope everyones loving the cold..Not!!! haven't been on skyrocket for ages now, but am after some cunning , easy and cheap( of course) ideas for fitting new headlining in main compartment! LAst year i had the deck above the saloon almost completely rebuilt due to soggy deck syndrome, and so the inside is still in a bit of an ugly state... old carpet and gue having been removed for the job. Lovely solid new deck and will post photos sometime, but an ideas on an easy way of putting up headlining which can be removed to check on the deck fitting screws etc? Have thought about epoxying on central strip of wood, and to sides and then attaching carpeted ply to that? It might reduce haed room by a half an inch, but dont see that as prob. any other thoughts/ experiences would be welcome.
Happy new year to all and bring on the summer!
Luke (skyrocket)

Hi Luke
Look at PRESTO in boat profiles he used 4" T&G upvc boards You can also get it in 12" width showing 3 x 4" boards easy to cut cheap as chips from builders merchants or upvc / plastic suppliers. I have used it in the past i glassed in 1/4" or 3/8" timbers for fixing. Also you must post the pictures of your roof repair.
Hope this helps

Hi rob, when you glassed in the timbers for fixing, I assume that was across the roof, and not lengthways?

I used International anti condensation paint (you can get it at B&Q). I am sure your reaction would be the same as mine was when the idea was put to me. But having done it with doubts 2 seasons ago I can say it is a complete success. I like the more functional style of it, harking back to the racing pedigree of the GK24. It is tough enough to put on as it requires a great deal of stirring, but it covers well. It has proved so durable, bright and clean that I will be doing the forecabin before I put to sea this year. I recommend you try it as you can cover it up with your original plan if you don't like. Trust me it's the cheap and easy option.

Hi Chris, thanks for that! It might be all i have time for this year as am possibly starting up a business! Did you just leave the nuts and bolts from the deck fittings exposed? or did you have any cleaver ways of covering them? I have small kids which although were ok with it last year, i still worry that i might scalp them on a sudden move of the boat. cheers luke.

I have kids too, and the nuts etc have not been a problem. The paint covers them perfectly and it does allow access to the leaks that can occur. The only difficulty is cleaning the deckhead enough to paint, I used a wire brush while holding a hoover up to it to suck up the pieces. Into my third season now, with no signs of wear and the cabin is noticably brighter.
