Im thinking of buying a yacht to do a bit of sailing, I would like it to be able to cope with the odd trip a cross the channel, I would also like stability and accomodation and speed, takeing into account? I have narrowed it down to four yachts to look at, Can you advise which would be the best suited and which would be up to sailing across the channel and how they sail in heavy sea's?

Only really have experience of the GK and the Achilles. If you want to cross channel in heavy seas and maybe short handed I'd choose the Achilles, they've also got a fair turn of speed around the cans. They're quite narrow though. For flush decked classic cruiser racer beauty it's gotta be the GK every time! The GK will beat the Achilles over the water but a well sailed Achilles will have an averagely sailed GK under PY handicap (ooh don't we know it!). Nice example of an Achilles 24 set up for single handed long distance, "Dove" is for sale in Weymouth.
