1/4 tonne cup 2006/12/06 22:18

There was discussion going previously about 1/4 ton cup in 2007. Dates appear to be 8-10 June (Friday, Sat, Sun) which is much better than mid week before. The problem! Need to have IRC handicap, if you have IRC then you can't sail RIR in ISC fleet which is where all the GK24s have gone to get bigger fleet along with GK cup. Unfortuantely you can't pretend not to have IRC cert as IRC send the list of boats to ISC on regular basis and do check (I innocently tried a couple years ago and got sent back to IRC fleet). I approached ISC committee Nov 2006 to see if they would allow dispensation so we could sail with rest of GK fleet if we had a new IRC cert but they felt they it would open up a big problem so no. So it looks like if we want to do 1/4 ton, we will end up in IRC away from all the other GKs in ISC which seems a shame but we tried. Anybody else thinking of doing 1/4 ton cup?

Hi Chris,
This whole IRC/PY/ISC thing is a pain in the backside, as it is at club level as well. Chuckles has an IRC cert these days, so we've presumably got this problem in the Round the Island. However this coming year we may not be going as I'm meant to be doing the Solent - Santander double handed the next weekend (not in Chuckles!!!?!!).
The crew showed some interest in the quarter ton cup though when we spoke about this an alternative "goal" for next year. I know there was talk of other boats turning up before the forum was lost (was it Di-Rich?). We'd be keen to travel upto Cowes if we could get at least four GKs on the line, these plywood quarter tonners would kick our a*se (maybe not yours!!), and we hate being last.
Perhaps we could have an initial show of hands of interest so that the Royal Corinthian could be contacted?
Cheers,

I had considered the idea last year , and even contacted the Royal Corinthian to confirm the elegibility of the GK24 as a design before deciding not to go ahead on the grounds of
IRC certificate and moving group in the RTI Entry fee Drinking and entertainment fees Lack of time to do it Crew incompetence Not being allowed to have the boat in case I trash it
Not wanting to be left behind except for overtaking broken speed machines...

Hi Chris,
It's a shame but Chuckles won't be there. Fly the GK flag for us! I shall be doing JOG Alderney that weekend in a damp Figaro.
Presumably that means you'll be IRC for the Round the Island? Better get those new sails ordered.....
Cheers,
