Standard rudders 2007/09/19 13:45
Bear in mind the availability of a new rudder in the parts for sale section of this forum. We have one only in stock.
Is there someone in the know, capable of taking on the actual mould so the class can continue to have replacement mouldings available?

Hang on... a commercial organisation trying to get rid of some old stock for a thousand quid including the mould....

At least make a contribution, if you sell either the rudder or the mould, to the class association for advertising it.

Oh and the moulds could be donated for a bit of free promotion.

Rumbled by the small print.

Principle still stands in support of margin sharing between businesses that stand to make some, and the efforts of others in supporting the GK24 OA and creating the platform of opportunity to make said margin...

Case rested....

Hi

Dave Hardy at Trafalgar Yachts (The Quay, Fareham)has set up a westerly supplier and I'm sure he would be happy to do this. I know he has already made moulds for other Westerly Boats. His number is 01329 823577

Hope this helps

It would seem to me that Trafalgar Yacht services are exactly the right people to hold the moulds for the rudder, perhaps Cygnus can contact them and offer it as I'm sure they won't be trawling the forums on the GK24OA.

Personally, working for a company that does alot of GRP, I had the Chuckles rudder rebuilt in hand layup and polished back rather than moulded. Seems a pretty effective method as long as you're not paying for the labour. So all would not be lost if the rudder moulds went west.

It's a shame nobody has got a big bucket of the old Makefast delta u bolts.... but better.

Still trying to get some, and they I would pay for.

Going to resort to stainless angle again soon - but they don't look slick...

PS - Slingshot re-launch tomorrow after 2 weeks out for antifoul, clean up, some wiring, and replace half the rubbing strake on the starboard side (what a pain that was). So sailing all weekend... yeeeharrrr

Delta meaning triangle shaped instead of 'U' shaped.

During extensive (and fruitless) research for replacements like for like, industry seems to call these delta bolts.

I go with it.... shame you can't still get them seeing as just about all the older Westerly's had them (26ft range Centaur, 31ft range Longbow, Discuss etc.). They must need them replacing if mine are anything to go by.

Cheers,

I googled u-bolt, looked at the Pro-boat website and noticed something called A-bolts..

http://www.proboat.co.uk/item.asp?dep=1&prod_id=289&cat_id=33

But they only come in M8 and M10 sizes with 0,8 or 18 degrees crank over of the top.

Yep - A bolts same thing.

So near yet not quite - need 55mm hole centres to line up with the brackets on the main bulkhead, and the lowers tie bar bracket.

These are 41 & 50 respectively..... apart from that...spot on.

Might get some anyway and see what I can cobble.

Cheers,
