This from Charlie Farley's owner in Bodmin.. Charlie Farley is a Westely GK24 Fractional Rig with a Mercury 4 Sailpower outboard on transom bracket. 4 spinaker sails are boasted, including the Enormous Pink Pig, 3 No.1 Genoas, Heavy, Med and light plus a working jib sail, storm jib and a nice Mainsail - all sails are in excellent working order. ![]() ![]() ![]() Moored in Penzance, I have been learning to sail on him since Easter and no other boat has gone out the harbour gates more than Charlie Farley! Not content with hooning around Mounts bay in up to 40 knot winds, I've taken him to the Scillies and also to Falmouth. Last week he was out the water (first time since 2000 I believe!!!) for a new seacock and a scrub up and a dose of Antifoul - he now is a lot happier scooting along - easily reaching hull speed in fairly light winds. On board he has a handheld VHF, a handheld GPS, a single interior light, a new table and some new cushions. He boasts a £6.75 Trago Mills Butane canister Camping stove and various Morrisons water bottles for supplies. He has a £26 off EBay 2 man dinghy, bilge pump, new floor for the Heads including new pipes. There are new ropes all round up on deck and up the mast. He could still benefit from a lick of paint here and there and his stanchion mounts have been a real issue. ![]() However, I love my GK24 and hope to do many great sailouts in him over the coming years. I believe he was originally owned by Mike Macnamara and won the 1980 British Championships in him ( I have yet to confirm this) I still have his Plans. Money is short however, so if you know of any Millionaires wishing to sponsor this Historic Racing Yacht on his trip to the Carribbean and onward, let me know and I can leave straight away!!!!! ![]() Roger Gale writes with a little of Charley's history... Also in approx 1999 Charley Farley competed in the Helford - L'Aberach Race ( Brittany) and was one of only 7 to finish out of 50 yachts Charley being I think the smallest. |
