GK24 Racing Scotland

The Forth's GK 24 series was completed at the extremely successful Land's of Loyal Regatta this year.

Dalgety Bay Sailing Club which houses the largest fleet of these versatile boats, in the world, has been organising a series of races within the FYCA events including FIG races, round the cans, the Anstruther Express and the regatta at PEYC.

The first four boats in the series all recorded at least one first place and the honours were shared between the Masthead and Fractionally rigged boats throughout the season.

The consistency of Brief n' Counter owned by David Williams and Clive Franks paid off in the final results and they finished in first spot with 7 points. GeeKay in its second season with Alex. Mackie finished in second place and New Wave enthusiastically sailed by John Spruce and Peter Roebuck in their second year helmed into third position.

The racing has been varied, close and exciting with no boat showing total dominance. The GK 24 is a boat from the early eighties which is just as much at home cruising as it is racing.

New entries would be welcome and if you are interested in close, friendly competition get in touch with us through the DBSC web-site

The boats all made a very good show at the Land's of Loyal with 4 th ., 5 th . and 10 th in a fleet of 16 Medium handicap yachts and a 2 nd . and 5 th . in a fleet of 9 in the Cruiser class boats.

Alex. Mackie (Fleet Representative Scotland)
