| PSC Parhelion series race report |
|
The very well organised, fun and friendly Parhelion series was again run this autumn by Portsmouth Sailing Club. The series consisted of 6 consecutive Saturdays through October and November. There is a good mix of boats and yachts that compete with larger boats in classes IRC 1 & 2.The smaller and non-rated boats such as the GK24's competing in the Club class. Most of the racing was carried out just to the east of the submerged barrier that extends south from the beach at Portsmouth with the last couple of Saturdays in the eastern Solent near Portsmouth. Final results show a good scrap for first place overall between GK24 "Genghis Khan" and the Omega 36 "Just in time". More windy conditions over the last two Saturdays just pushed the conditions in favor of the heavier boat. GK24 "Scallywag" had a good series and finally finished 3rd overall beating "Rhapsody" into 4th. "Just in Time" an Elan 333, sailed by Phil Duff didn't race for all of the weekends and had only a small crew finished 5th. Next Spring we hope to see a few more GK's back out for the series, there are a large number of GK's in and around Portsmouth harbour so with a little effort we could have a great Solent fleet.
