Game Keeper

I keep her on the Lower Thames at Gravesend sailing club on a swinging mooring. These are the first mooring in the Thames on the southern side and we run a couple of open events each year, one Eastward out to the Red sands towers in the Thames Estuary and the other in to London. It would be good to see other GKs in the area take part as well. If any one is interested the web site to watch is www.gravesendsailingclub.co.uk

We love the boat as it sails so well, and my co owner, Hayley is at the helm during our ladies race in 2006.

Hull Number is X265
Sail No. GK276
Built November 1979, Name GKSK II

She seems to have spent some time in the Channel islands and northern France before returning to the UK in 1984.

Between 1984 and 1989 she was renamed as "Game Keeper", and sailed from West Mersea, Essex.

In 1989 she was sold again and kept in the same area.

We have owned her since May 2005, and relocated her to the Thames at Gravesend.

As her best racing days are over we bought her with view to enjoying fast day sailing, as she is still a delight to sail without being heavy work. To mark this use and the very tough handicap given all the extra safety equipment and anchors etc now carried we have fitted a conventional roller furling system for the foresail to aid handling etc, otherwise she is still in an ex-works condition with no modifications. The cabin seat covers were changed from the original only last year!!

Our next challenge is to install some form of electricity generation on board as she has an outboard engine. This is likely to be solar panels.
