GK24 Owners' Association

Going Koncern

Owned for 6 years by Gordon Marshall and based on the River Forth in Scotland. Used primarily for racing, this GK used to be called Granny Knot.

Engine is a 6Hp inboard 2 cylinder “Vetus” engine with intercooler, electric start, alternator, twin folding prop all refurbished 2004. A Solar panel keeps the battery toped up when not in use. Which is not very often, as she is used 2-3 times a week in the summer and weekends in the Autumn /Winter series.

She has a twin racing foil on the forestay Genoa , No 2 , No 3, storm jib

Main sail is twin reefed & fully battened.

All control lines are led to the cockpit to allow easy single handed sailing.

Six No 16 winches allow these lines to be trimmed easily.

Hull number is X300

Keel is the racing 5ft version (deep keel)

Sail no is 1017C

Rig – Mast head

New tinted windows & cockpit wash board 2004

The mast /boom , standing rigging & running rigging were all replaced 1998

Hull colour is white with a gold and blue speed stripe and logo

Instrumentation:-Garmin GPS, Clipper depth, speed, wind, all new 2003-2005

MODS :- Spinnaker ring to pullpit, Shroud deck angle

Internally she is a “home “build yacht” which resulted in a very basic layout from the start. As she is now used for racing, the need to refurbish to modern standards keeps slipping down the priority list as new sails and gadgets seem to be bought first.

I find her to be a very stable, controllable yacht in any conditions.

Very keen to see more GK24's on the Forth along with my main competitors, Brief n' Counter, Smuggler, Gee Kay & New Wave. Billy Bean, and Hocus Pocus are moored up at the club for some TLC.

As an ex dinghy sailor :- GP14, Laser, Flying Fifteen I was looking for a bigger boat that could be handled single handed or go flat out with a full racing crew. We have been two up full suit of sails and spinnaker doing 7.4 knots on the GPS. Exhilarating stuff until all the noises stop and you wait for something to break, but this just goes to show how good the yacht is. With regular use and with regular crew the boat is a good all rounder.

We here rumors that some Sonata's may defect if they can find a GK for sale ??? The popularity is growing !
