Golf Kilo

By Bill Whiteside

We have been on holiday in Golf Kilo this year. Left Portishead on the 19 th May to Watchet, wife insists on first short trip to see if we have sails etc.

Then there is only Padstow on the north Devon and Cornish coasts for keelboats so that was our next planned stop but tides unsuitable on arrival and carried on to Falmouth. Next to Weymouth, across to Le Havre, mast down, on to Rouen and Paris. Through Loire canals to the Saone and north to the Marne and back to Paris and Weymouth. Stopped at Weymouth for a few days then weather changed and had to wait another week as we decided to make Portishead in one go, would need 3 days+. Forecast good on 30th August so started, weather deteriorated at Lands End, very rough. Decided (was told) to put into Padstow, stayed a couple of nights then back to Portishead. 3 1/2 months in a boat designed for small dwarfs. May be small and tippy but as dinghy racers we consider it big and stable.

In the past have visited Scotland, Isle of Man, Anglesey and Eire - the joy of retirement!
