| Weymouth Regatta 07 - 3 GK24s! |
|
Three GK24s turned out at this year's Weymouth Regatta; Minx and Upgrade from Poole and Chuckles from Weymouth. Minx again showed everybody her heels and dashed away to take three firsts, a second (pipped by the guru of wind Paul Barford of Barford Sails)and the PY2 class overall, not needing to do the long distance race on friday to keep the discard! There were 17 boats in class and the racing was quite hectic especially on sunday when there was some strong wind and the Chuckles crew at least were suffering from the Mount Gay rum promotion at Weymouth Sailing Club the night before. Nice to see John with Upgrade with Andy from Scallywag on board and hope everyone had a safe passage back to Poole. The Chuckles boys were happy just to have a mast, but two thirds on Saturday with having been OCS on the first race and having to go back was a cause for celebration. Another celebration on sunday for the broach of the season so far - not fast but we love 'em! The organisation of Yacht Clubs of Weymouth and the professionalism of the race officer in Frank Newton made a cracking regatta, which also saw some tight class racing with 10 MGC27s on the line in the PY1 class. |
